Life at High Ground Farm

Life at High Ground Farm has been authentic and simple, in step with the seasons, and the land, for over 30 years. High Ground embraces the conservation of heritage breeds; land; and architecture. Growing food for the table from the soil, cooking from scratch, and eating at home has been a way of life for too many years to count. Depending on self reliance, sustainability, ingenuity and conservation, before it was the trend. Painting a picture, or writing a story on a summers eve; Visiting with friends sitting under the thick oak canopy, while sipping ice tea - It is a way of life.

So, come walk with me over the green hills, smell the gentle scent of English roses and Southern gardenias; watch the butterflies drift from zinnia to larkspur; hear the gentle coo of the hens as they scratch in the pasture; enjoy the taste of sweet tomatoes; and Ah Yes, the sight and warmth of a new laid egg. Step back from the 21st century into the 19th. This is High Ground, a different time, a different way of life.

Southern Cooking Classes - $50/person: Southern scratch made biscuits; corn breads baked and fried; Fresh Lemon Pound Cake- email for reservations and schedule.

Artists Day on the Farm-Imagine a day painting in the deep forest or in the pasture with the goats! Maybe down by the creek or on the porch...being served refreshments in the Pavilion and a European lunch from a local restaurant complete with Coffee/Tea, then going back to your paints in solitude until dusk.

A day includes: A map of the farm; rules; refreshments and lunch; solitude and quiet; and memories. 60.00/person

Tours available By appointment or ticket sales.15.00/person 12 years and up. Ground is uneven, Some areas not suitable for children. The tour includes the history of the Harrington - Dewar House and High Ground Farm; Seeing the Angora goats and the ancient heritage breed Java Chickens; the berry gardens; the Kitchen garden; the rose gardens, the perennial borders; the historic outbuildings, and MOST importantly experience the peacefulness of Quiet, old growth, oak forest and sweet bird song.
